Stories

Okay, just two cute stories before I forget about them. They are probably more funny to me, than to anyone else, but I want to have them written down for posterity.
Its been fun now that talking with Reagan is turning more conversational and less her declaring her immediate needs (although I would say that is still 75% of her talking). Here is one of the funny conversations we had as we were snuggling before she went to bed.
Story #1
To set up the scene, we were lying in her bed and she was playing with my hair. Reagan has been getting her hair cut at Pigtails & Crewcuts which has "transportation" chairs for the kids to sit in during their haircut.

Reagan: Mama, you need a haircut.
Mommy: You're right, I do need a haircut.
Long pause. I assume she was thinking.
Reagan: Do you want to sit in the taxi or the fire engine?
Mommy: I would like to sit in the fire engine because it has a bell.
Thinking again.
Reagan: Don'cha want to sit in the airplane?

Haha. To think that I would be able to fit in those little bitty kid chair! What a sight that would be! Anyway, it's funny to me that she thinks I also sit in the fun chairs when I get my haircut.
Story #2
Today we went to the library and checked out some kid books for Reagan. One of the books we checked out was the Paper Bag Princess, which features a princess who outsmarts a dragon to save the prince and then dumps him. Anyway, the important part is the dragon. Reagan and I read the story together and then Reagan wanted to look at the pictures. As I was in the kitchen, I heard her exclaim "The Reagan! Just like me! That's me, Mama!" I don't know if it's how I say "dragon" or "Reagan," but she thinks it's her and we now refer to the book as "The Reagan" book.

Anyway, I just thought they were cute and I want to remember these cute moments later on when she won't talk to me as a teenager.

One Too Many . . .

This was the scene after I went to the door to let our neighbor in for a visit. Reagan looked up at me and said "I have one too many, Mama."
Ha Ha.

Two Hands

For the first time in 7 months, I have two free hands this afternoon.
We have been struggling to get Dylan to nap in his crib during the day and usually end up holding him while he sleeps.
Today I went to read stories to Reagan before her nap, and put Dylan in his crib to hang out for 5 minutes and when I came back, he was asleep!!!
Whoo hoo!!!
But now what do I do?!?!?!

Dylan - 7 Months

It was a little trickier to get Dylan's 7 month shots this week . . .

Planning the escape route . . .
Hey! Where'd you go?

Oops! Upside down.

I found the sign!!! Yummy!
Mooommmmm! If you take this picture and then I'm going to take off my diaper.

Smiley Boy

Showing off some muscles
So since I wrote the 6 month post so late in the month, everything is pretty much the same. However, he did acquire some new skills in the past couple weeks:
  • Dylan has begun to move forward! It's not a crawl or even an army crawl. The best way to describe it would be sort of like an inchworm. I'll post the video later.
  • When he's not moving forward, Dylan is rolling around like a mad man. It doesn't take him long to get across the room.
  • Dylan's started to stick his little tongue out, but everytime I try to get a picture of it he starts to smile. It didn't take him long to catch on to the whole picture taking thing.
  • I don't remember if I mentioned his two bottom teeth in an earlier post, but they are both there. I'm hoping that he will just have the bottom ones for a while.
  • Dylan reaches for EVERYTHING!!! If it's not a toy, he wants it and it goes directly in the mouth. The reaching is what inspired the moving forward.
  • Still naps in my arms when I'm home (except today!!!) and has been sleeping for 3.5-4 hour stretches at night.
  • We're pretty sure Dylan has McCarthy family proportions. My little guy is wearing 6-12 month tops (long torso) and 3-6 month pants (short legs). (Even though John is 6+ inches taller than me, we have the same inseam).
  • Still is a mama's boy and is quite persistent when he wants me to hold him. He's begun to reach his arms up when I walk by and will even crawl into my lap and throw his arms up for me to hold him.

It was another good month with our little man. I can't believe he's closer to one now than he is to being a newborn :( Oh well, I guess that means summer will be here before we know it!? Hard to imagine on this snowy February day!
